Before Bodhisatta Gotama's Enlightenment Vasavattimaradhiraja, the demon of desire and illusion, commands an army of mara devils against him. Here Mara's armies include men of different nationalities, including Chinese generals, Europeans and Indian and Chams from Central Vietnam.
During the attack, Dharani or Mother Earth, wrings out her hair creating a deluge from the water that the bodhissatva had poured into the soil for merit over previous lifetimes. To the top-right of Dharani, you can see Mara as a green demon putting his hands together in submission to the Buddha. You can also see flowers falling from heaven as the devas honor the Buddha's accomplishment.

Here the Buddha descends a crystal ladder, returning to earth after having spent a rainy season in Tavatisma Heaven where his mother had been reborn. On his left is a golden ladder for Indra and on his right a silver one for Brahma who attend to him. At the time of the Buddha's descent, a miracle occured which enabled all the people of the three worlds - heaven, earth and hell - to see and be seen by each other.
htmlText_8E306939_863C_F92D_41C8_89FAEAFAB76F.html = The Buddha image has no recorded history. However, No Pak Nam believes that the image's sculptural style matches those of Sri Sakyamuni (at Wat Suthat) and so presumes that it was brought down from Sukhothai and restored during the reign of Rama Ist.
htmlText_89772F72_864C_993F_41B8_485B3479FC42.html = The gathering of celestials, assembled to listen to the teachings of the Lord Buddha, is called the Celestial Assembly. It is a mural tradition dating back to the Late Ayudhya Period. They are organised into four rows, including yakkha ogres and other mythical creatures among the devas.
If you look high up towards the ceiling, you can see not devas but powerful magicians like vidyadharas and rishis. These magicians have acquired supreme powers via meditation but have fallen from the Buddha's path and now fight over the fruit of the nariphala, a fruit in the shape of a woman that grows in the fabled Himavant forest.
htmlText_89CD5763_86CC_895D_419D_F6565932A578.html = This mural depicts a scene from the Nimi Jataka, in which the bodhisattva practices resolution by firmly leading his kingdom's subjects along the path of righteousness. Here King Nimi delivers a sermon to the deva gods in Tavatimsa Heaven. No Pak Nam believes that it was painted by Ajarn Thong Yu and 'shows a feeling for vast expenses of interstellar space.'
htmlText_8E9A0D45_86C4_9965_41E1_2AD924267406.html = This mural depicts a scene from the Vessantara Jataka. The brahmin Jujaka, after having taken Vessantara's two children away from him, loses his way and arrives at Sivi where King Sanjaya recognises his two grandchildren and redeems them from the old brahmin by giving him their weight in gold.
htmlText_8EAE8BF4_86DC_F93B_41E0_A4D6D2C002E0.html = This mural depicts events from the Mahajanaka Jataka. In this story, the bodhissatva rides on a merchant vessel (here depicted as a contemporary Chinese junk vessel). The ship sinks and Prince Janaka swims in the open sea for seven days, demonstrating his virtue of perseverance. Finally the goddess Manimekkhala (top left) comes to his aid.
